Principal’s Message

Kia ora

Term 1 is flying by, just today we have our two senior classes out to Te Papa and Year 3-4 girls taking part in a futsal tournament at the arena.

Thanks to all those who made it along to our Mahi Tahi Tatou afternoon, we are looking forward to planning further events in Term 2.

This year we will be holding our school production at the end of Term 2 so classes are beginning to plan their performances and costumes.

Swimming

Swimming is an important part of our curriculum, we are not aiming to develop Olympic champions but to ensure that all of our children have the skills to safely enjoy the water.

We expect all students to swim each week unless they have a medical reason not to.

Attendance

Unfortunately our attendance data for Term 4 2025 is concerningly low. Of particular concern is poor attendance on Mondays and the fact 21% of our students have chronic absence. Students who are regularly absent not only miss school work, they also miss their friends, and some of the opportuniities to participate in extra curricular activities.

If you need additional support to get your child to school regularly please let us know

Homework Passports

“Homework Passports” were sent home earlier this term, there is no rush, they are designed to be worked on over the next 3 terms. We encourage all students to work on completing all of the tasks to earn a great trip in November, juniors to Jumparama and seniors to Adrenalin Forest. The only way to earn a place on these trips to return their fully completed passport and workbook to the Principal to sight and sign off.

If you would like any worksheets or materials to support your child’s goals please check with their classroom teacher.

Just a few of the activities this term, a visit from author Eteroa Lafaele, a junior football tournament, visits to our local library, a visit to Te Papa and Garden to Table. Special mention to this year’s Road Patrollers, they have been pretty reliable, turning up each day for a stressful job.

Last week we held a memorial for our much loved Garden Specialist, Alison Kurukaanga which included unveiling a Red Admiral butterfly in her memory.

Garden to Table

Over the past couple of weeks, our children have been immersed in joyful Chinese New Year celebrations as part of their dining experience at school. They delighted in participating in the meaningful tradition of tossing the prosperity salad, a custom usually shared with family members—this time, celebrated with their class family. As they eagerly mixed the colourful ingredients, the children practised using chopsticks and confidently called out “Gong Xi Fa Chai!” (Happy New Year), filling the room with excitement and festive cheer. Through this celebration, our Garden to Table programme continues to show that it is about more than simply growing and cooking produce; it is also about embracing cultural diversity, exploring ethnic foods, and celebrating the rich traditions that bring communities together.
