Principal’s Message

Kia ora

This term we again will be sending out “Learning Profiles” via our HERO app. These give you an insight into your child’s learning and each term we aim to send out three updates, one on literacy, one on maths and one on topic. Please make sure you have downloaded the app so that you can stay informed as to your child’s progress.

We are excited to be right on the verge of re-opening our school library, between building renovations, redesigning of the library and vandalism, our school library has been out of action for a year and a half. So next Wednesday we are planning our “Aso Fiafia” or fun afternoon, along with reopening the library we will also be celebrating Samoan Language Week. We hope you can come along and join in the fun.

CARE Values

Tūwhitia te hopo,

mairangatia te angitū!

‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’ is a whakatauki that embodies our first CARE value of courage.

We encourage students to take risks in their learning, from trying to read an unknown word, sound out to spell new vocab or swim across the pool for the first time.

Effective learners take risks, they give it a go even when they aren’t totally sure.

Attendance

One of our strategic goals this year is to improve attendance, we have gotten off to a great start in Term 1 but we know it can be even harder in the winter as the weather gets colder. Our goal is to have at least 70% of our students with regular attendance, here more than 90% of the time.

An important component of attendance is punctuality, that is arriving on time each day and staying the full day each day. While we understand the need to take Doctor’s appointments when you can get them it is important that students are here on time (just before 9am) and stay until 3pm. Arriving late has children missing out on notices or instructions and the same goes for leaving early.

Every Day Matters!
