Principal’s Message

Kia ora

This week we begin the process of moving into our refurbished block.

Once the move is complete work will begin on our current administration block. At that time the office will operate from a new site (near the hall kitchen). The main carpark will be closed as will our current front gate. Access to the school will be from pedestrian gates by the hall and Nuanua Kindergarten.

Monday 11 March: begin the move

Monday 18 March: Office operating from new site

                                  Front gate closed

Wednesday 20 March: Blessing 7:30am

                                       Carpark closed

Miss Kerse move to Whai (Room 7)

Mr Casey move to Pipi (Room 6)

Miss Holden move to Kokopu (Room 5)

Whaea Onaitta move to Kowhai (Room 4)

Thursday 21 March:     Paid Union Meeting: school closes 1pm

                                       Mrs G move to Tuna

                                       Miss Pau’u move to Kotukutuku

Following the move into these rooms our existing administration block will then begin refurbishment. At this point there will be no access to the school from the current front gate and no access to our carpark.

We apologise now for any inconvenience. It is likely the works will continue for at least 2 terms but hopefully by the end of the year we will have a fully refurbished school.

Please add the Hero app to your phone, we are aiming to go paperless so all notices, permission slips and reports will be sent out through Hero. For those who get signed up we will have a draw for PaknSave vouchers at our whanau afternoon.

Board Policies

One of the major jobs of our Board is setting school policies.
We have recently updated our Child Protection Policy which provides guidelines for school staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children in our kura.

We have also added a cell phone policy in line with the new government’s expectations.

Headlice are a common issue for children and left untreated are not only itchy but can cause further skin issues. If you need products to treat them please ask at the office and check your child’s hair regularly.

Due to recent measle outbreaks we are requesting immunisation certificates for all students to be provided to the school office as soon as possible please. This information is recorded in our Student Management System.

Swimming

Great to have our students out and about participating in sports. We have a girls basketball team playing on Wednesday afternoons and last week several teams played in an interschool cricket tournament.

PB4L = Positive Behaviour for Learning

Encouraging and supporting positive behaviour creates the best environment for all students. It enables all students to feel safe and valued at school and to best engage with their learning.

We focus on CARE values, encouragiing students to reflect on their own behaviour – for example – rather than saying “Don’t swear, it’s not accepatable at school” “Are you demonstrating respect when you swear?”

Students who are seen demonstrating positive behaviour in class acquire stickers for their CARE certificates, when they complete a section they come to me in the Principal’s office and can choose a small prize. When students complete the full certificate it is presented at assembly and they receive a book.

At the end of each term we arrange a major reward for those who have consistently demonstrated good behaviour.
