Principal’s Message

Kia ora

This school year is nearly done and it has been a very busy few weeks, just 2 to go now. Our Year 5 and 6 students have just returned from their camp, being away from home and the wide range of activities really gave students the opportunity to demonstrate our CARE values.

Courage – trying new and challenging activities

Ambition – attempting to master new skills

Respect – working positively with new people and their friends in a new environment

Endurance – sticking at it and seeing it through even when it was hard

Thank you to parents for entrusting us with your children, I believe they all grew in confidence and independence as a result of this experience.

While camp has been a real highlight the last few weeks have also been very tough for four of our staff members with the passing of close family members. Our thoughts are with them as they work through such significant loss in their lives.

Nga mihi

Board

Kia ora koutou,

On behalf of the Chair Willie, the Principal, Board members and teachers; I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all our parents for the year 5 and 6’s who were able to attend the camp last week at El Rancho. I had the pleasure of being one of the parent helpers and from my observations I could see that the children really enjoyed the time away and enjoyed all the activities and not to mention the opportunity to hang out and have fun with their peers.

For every young person, camp is a great opportunity to build confidence being away for a short period from their comfort zone (home), the children are able to experience a different surrounding, and try new things that they wouldn’t normally experience. It warmed my heart to see them interact with one another in a positive way, having fun, helping each other out and seeing the excitement in their faces knowing they were able to do things like ride horses, complete a challenge, toasting marshmallows around a bonfire, being able to manage themselves, or just being a great helper. I trust the children will remember these experiences for a long time, and we look forward to more of these types of experiences being available for our children to participate in while being able to learn and develop.
