Principal’s Message

Kia ora

We are nearing the end of another busy term, some very tired students (and staff). There have been a number of recent trips with students out for sports, STEM and arts activities. In this last week we will also have some students attend the blessing for the new public library – our Te Kiwa Nui performance group will also be giving up some of their holiday time to perform at the public opening day for the library on Monday 28 September.

I whakanui mātou i Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori i tērā wiki. He rawe te rongo i te tini o ngā kaimahi me ngā tauira e kōrero ana i te reo Māori.

Last week we celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. It was great to hear so many staff and students speaking Te Reo. Next term we will celebrate Gagana Tokelau in week 3 and we are also planning a science focus, especially looking at light and energy.

We are also planning a teacher only day early in Term 4, it will be Tuesday 27 October which is the Tuesday after Labour Weekend, making a 4 day weekend for students.

New Facebook Page

We have started a new school Facebook group, it is a closed group but whānau of current students just need to request access. We wanted to create another way to share photos and information although we still aim for all whānau to be connected to our HERO app.

Recent events have included an after school STEM programme – designing bridges, the Toi Rama arts programme with Pataka which has combined arts with exploring our local environment and a futsal tournament down at Te Rauparaha Arena.

Attendance

Attendance has a significant impact on achievement, maintaining attendance over 90% is very important. We all live busy lives but birthdays, haircuts and shopping are not justified reasons for school absence.
